Impedance audiometry also know as Tympanometry is an examination used to test the condition of the middle ear and mobility of the eardrum (tympanic membrane) and the conduction bones by creating variations of air pressure in the ear canal. Tympanometry is an objective test of middle-ear function. It is not a hearing test, but rather a measure of energy transmission through the middle ear. The test should not be used to assess the sensitivity of hearing and the results of this test should always be viewed in conjunction with pure tone audiometry.
ITympanometry is a valuable component of the audiometric evaluation. In evaluating hearing loss, tympanometry permits a distinction between sensorineural and conductive hearing loss, when evaluation is not apparent via Weber and Rinne testing. Furthermore, in a primary care setting, tympanometry can be helpful in making the diagnosis of otitis media by demonstrating the presence of a middle ear effusion. The test is performed by our qualified audiologist. on appointment only.
Auditory Steady State Response Test
Auditory Steady State Response Test is an objective test for evaluation of hearing ability of children’s too young for audiometric test. Most children referred for ASSR test after new born screening done by hospitals, Nursing Homes indicates possibility of hearing loss. The results obtained from ASSR testing can be used to estimate the behavioural pure tone audiogram. This information is helpful in management of children with hearing loss. This test is conducted on appointment only. Please take an prior appointment for further details.
Bera Hearing Test
BERA is an electro physiological test procedure which studies the electrical potential generated at the various levels of the auditory system starting from cochlea to cortex. The BERA (Brain stem Auditory Evoked Responses) test is performed by an audiologist in children to check for hearing loss, which can occur in children who have suffered from meningitis. It is important to detect hearing impairment because a normal hearing is essential for normal development of speech and language.
The test is harmless, i.e. it is totally safe, and takes few minutes to complete. Earphones are placed over the child’s ears, and sound is produced through the machine, and the brain waves are recorded by electrodes placed on the scalp. No injections, surgery or pain is produced. I would recommend that you get this test done. This test is conducted on appointment only. Please take an prior appointment for further details
Oto Acoustic Emission Test
Otoacoustic emissions are clinically important because they are the basis of a simple, non-invasive, test for hearing defects in newborn babies and in children who are too young to cooperate in conventional hearing tests. OAEs are considered to be related to the amplification function of the cochlea. In the absence of external stimulation, the activity of the cochlear amplifier increases, leading to the production of sound. Otoacoustic emissions also assist in differential diagnosis of cochlear and higher level hearing losses (e.g., auditory neuropathy).
Pure Tone Audiometry
Pure tone audiometry (PTA) is the key hearing test used to identify hearing threshold levels of an individual, enabling determination of the degree, type and configuration of a hearing loss. Thus, providing the basis for diagnosis and management. PTA is a subjective, behavioural measurement of hearing threshold, as it relies on patient response to pure tone stimuli. Therefore, PTA is used on adults and children old enough to cooperate with the test procedure. This test is performed by a qualified audiologist un sound proof/treated room by appointment only.
